At Reach for the Stars Tutoring, we believe every learner deserves personalized instruction, patient guidance, and the opportunity to succeed. Founder Melanie Rasmussen holds integrity to the highest standard, and that commitment guides every aspect of the agency—from carefully selecting tutors and communicating honestly with families to ensuring that each learner receives dependable, compassionate, and individualized support.
Since 2004, we have proudly served students and families throughout Long Island and beyond. What began with a commitment to helping individual students has grown into a trusted tutoring agency serving learners of all ages, from elementary school through college and adulthood.
Whether a student is strengthening foundational skills, working through a challenging course, preparing for an important exam, or seeking academic enrichment, our goal remains the same: to provide the right support, from the right tutor, at the right time.
Our Story
Reach for the Stars Tutoring, Inc. was founded by Melanie Rasmussen, a New York State-certified elementary and special education teacher with a lifelong passion for helping others learn.
Before founding Reach for the Stars Tutoring, Melanie worked as an educator and was honored as Baltimore City Teacher of the Year in 2000. Her experience in both general and special education shaped the personalized, student-centered approach that continues to guide our agency today.
For more than 22 years, Reach for the Stars Tutoring has grown by building strong relationships with students, families, educators, community organizations, and Long Island school districts. Despite that growth, we have never lost sight of what matters most: understanding each learner’s needs and helping them move forward with confidence.

Our Mission
Our mission is to help students and adult learners strengthen their skills, overcome academic challenges, build confidence, and reach their individual goals.
We understand that no two learners are exactly alike. That is why we do not use a one-size-fits-all approach. Each tutoring plan is shaped around the learner’s current abilities, areas of concern, learning style, schedule, and personal objectives.
We support learners who need help catching up, keeping up, or moving ahead.

Our team includes New York State-certified teachers and knowledgeable professionals with expertise in their fields. Each employee completes a background check before working with our students.
